I bought this tank to house a two-year old male betta fish. It 'was stressed at first, for fear of running the waterfall, but got used to it and enjoys sitting on the plants directly under the waterfall now. You can buy chemicals to calm the fish, but I have not found this necessary when you add it to my fish.Note that pebbles and plants are not included in the kit. It is only with a filter cartridge and the hardware needed to start.
When I put the aquarium together, I was a little 'fear that the fins would get dragged into the engine, but has a guard that works to prevent (although it does not seem to be). The lights on the hood to provide illumination for the tank and can be disabled without disturbing the operation of the filter. To turn off the filter and lights, disconnect the tank.
The brand of the aquarium seems to feel on the cheap before, but it is robust in construction. The bowl is made of glass aquarium. The filter is quiet.
The only really negative aspect of this aquarium is that the waterfall creates significant splashing. In order to stop the spray, fill the tank up to about 1.5 inches below the lip (slightly higher than the standard 2 inches) and make sure the filter cartridge and its holder is pushed down as they will go (without forcing the plastic). If that fails, buy a small plastic aquarium plant that can hang on and put it into the hole in the beak of the waterfall. When allowed to hang over the flow of the waterfall, the water will be able to dribble the plant and the reservoir so that some of the resulting spray.
